Belltree’s head of service Tina Warnock said: “The short videos offer a mixture of musical activities to support social and communication skills, promote self-care and good mental health. Viewers do not need any musical experience to benefit from them.

“This project was supported by the Arts Council England Covid-19 Emergency Response Fund and is aimed at people who may be struggling without their pre-lockdown support networks including older people feeling isolated, people with mental health challenges and children with special education needs.

“As we enter the new winter phase of this pandemic with more restrictions placed on us all, it is vital that people find new ways to support their mental health especially those who are isolated and whose usual activities are unavailable.

“We know from research that music lights up the whole brain and that everyone has an inbuilt ability to respond to music, regardless of age, illness or disability. We hope to reach as many people as possible with these videos as we believe they should make a real difference to people’s lives.”

Belltree Music Therapy CIC was founded in 2009 to help vulnerable children and adults across Sussex to connect through music.

“Over 40 videos have been created and presented by Belltree’s team of HCPC registered, professional music therapists offering a wide range of ideas and guided activities for making music at home, whether alone or in a bubble.”
