Guild Care will be hosting a volunteer recruitment open morning at its Linfield House Care Home, in Wykeham Road, Worthing.
The morning will have a special focus on the ways in which people can get involved in volunteering at any of the four Guild Care homes.
People will be able to choose from Irene House, Linfield House, Caer Gwent and Haviland House, which are all situated in the Worthing area.
There will be an opportunity to have a look around Linfield House and meet some of the staff, as well as hearing from some of the current care home volunteers, who are the people best placed to tell others what it is like to volunteer with Guild Care. Information about other volunteering roles at Guild Care will be available, too.
There are a number of things volunteers can do to help in the Guild Care homes, such as assisting on minibus outings, helping out with group activities such as arts and crafts, bingo and carpet bowls or simply visiting residents who may like to have a bit of company.
Guild Care is also keen to have volunteers who can take a resident out for a walk or help people to potter in the gardens.
Not all of Guild Care’s care home residents receive regular visits from family and friends, so volunteers really can make such a huge difference to someone’s day.
Volunteers are a valued part of the team at Guild Care, so ongoing support and training will be provided to enable them to carry out their roles. Guild Care also likes to try to match residents and volunteers who may share similar interests and experiences.
Spending time chatting, sharing a cup of tea or simple engagement in social activities are so important for the wellbeing of people who live in care homes.
Guild Care feels it would be wonderful to increase the amount of volunteers they have who can help to deliver this. Volunteers do not have to have lots of spare time, even an hour a week will make a difference. Guild Care is particularly keen to hear from people who are available to volunteer during the day time.
Anyone who would like to go along to the volunteer recruitment morning should pop in to Linfield House between 10am and 2pm on Thursday, February 16. Those who cannot make this date but would like to find out more about volunteering in one of the four care homes or any other volunteering opportunities at Guild Care should contact Claire Thomas, volunteer co-ordinator, on 01903 600602 or email firstname.lastname@example.org
