16 Covid-19 deaths in Hastings and Rother as UK records highest daily increase

A total of 1,820 deaths died in the UK within 28 days of a positive Covid test, taking the total number of deaths by that measure to 93,290.
In Hastings, eight further deaths were recorded, according to the latest government figures, which were published at 4pm today (Wednesday, January 20).

Hide AdThe total number of people to have died in Hastings within 28 days of a positive Covid test now stands at 169, an increase of 21 since Friday.
In Rother, another eight deaths were recorded in the latest figures. A total of 244 people have died within 28 days of a positive test in Rother since the beginning of the pandemic. This is an increase of 23 since Friday.
Cases
Latest figures from Public Health England, covering the week ending January 15, show the number of new cases in the county fell by 27 per cent compared to the week before.

Hide AdEvery local authority saw a decrease, but most areas still have infection rates well above the national average.
England’s average infection rate is 432 confirmed cases per 100,000 people. Only three areas in Sussex have an infection rate below that figure – Horsham, Mid-Sussex and Rother.
As of yesterday afternoon (January 19), 3,687,206 people in England have received the first dose of the vaccine.
