Here’s what our reporter wrote at the time: THE HAWTH was alive with laughter and applause on Monday ( October 25) when the town celebrated the outstanding achievements of the volunteers and residents who took part in this year’s Let’s FACE It projects. Crawley brought home a haul of awards from the Britain in Bloom and South East in Bloom competitions thanks to the efforts of hundreds of neighbourhood projects, and 300 people packed into the Hawth to cheer their efforts. Let’s FACE It coordinator Ruth Growney was on the verge of tears when she received a standing ovation for the work she has put in. She said: “Over the last year there have been nearly 150 community projects of all shapes and sizes with nearly 5,000 hours of volunteering undertaken by some 1,300 volunteers. This is a really phenomenal achievement and we should be justly proud.”
