Coates Castle, which is Grade II listed, was built by John King in the 1820s in the Strawberry Hill Gothic Style.

He sold the property to George Wyndham whose coat of arms appears above the original main entrance.

There is a lot of history attached to the building, with many famous visitors including Sir Winston Churchill and Kaiser Wilhelm.

Coates Castle is constructed of stuccoed stone with crenulated gables, buttresses and Gothic style turrets.

The property is set well back from Coates Lane down its own drive, past woodland and ancient trees and surrounded by the Barlavington Estate land and beautiful open countryside which offers exclusive access for walking to the occupants of the castle.

This property shares fine, castellated architectural features derived from the main house.

It was most probably the residence of the head groom/coachman and his family when Coates Castle was a fully-staffed estate.

It is detached from the main house but attached to a neighbour and accessed via a brick courtyard.
