51 East Sussex County Council Schools chosen for ground-breaking pilot

Pupils at 45 Primary schools and 6 Secondary schools in the county will benefit from a ground-breaking pilot to provide one-to-one tuition.

The County Council is one of ten local authorities in the country to be chosen to take part in the two year pilot which starts in September2007. The pilot will focus on children in key stage 2 (8 - 11 years) and key stage 3 (11-14years). There will be detailed analysis to identify children who are not making the expected levels of progress. Once pupils have been identified, they will be given extra support. This will include up to 10 hours extra one-to-one tuition in English and / or Maths.

This tuition will be made available at a time considered to be most beneficial and will be given by a qualified teacher. Pupils' progress will be tracked and regularly reported to the Department for Education and Skills (DfES). Pupils will also take shorter tests when their teacher decides that they are ready and will be given a national curriculum level based on their results.
