BREAKING NEWS: A27 crash victim ‘making a recovery’
The 32-year-old woman from Waterlooville was involved in a collision on the A27 Fishbourne roundabout at Chichester and suffered serious head injuries.
This afternoon, Sergeant Tony Crisp, of the Arundel Road Policing Unit, said: “I understand the woman who was seriously injured is now making a recovery. The incident caused huge tailbacks in the area, with eastbound traffic queued for several miles back to the Sussex-Hampshire border.

“I would like to thank motorists who were caught up in the jam for their patience and understanding .”
The woman’s white Nissan Juke was in a crash with a lorry carrying a mobile home.
An eyewitness spoke of how the lorry ‘appeared from nowhere’.

Hide AdLesley Stewart from Hertford was travelling in a car with her husband. They were two cars behind the Nissan which was involved in the incident.
She said they left Bosham at 1pm and were two cars behind the Nissan.
“We watched in disbelief after hearing the most horrendous bang when the lorry appeared from nowhere, she said.
She said the lorry hit the car sideways on, shunting it up and over the roundabout before it jackknifed.

“I think that was because everyone just stopped driving with shock on the roundabout when we heard the sickening noise of the impact. A lot of people just stopped and jumped out of their cars and ran to the car to see what they could do.”
She said the family’s ‘hopes and prayers’ were with the victim and her family.
The woman was airlifted to Southampton General Hospital by the Kent, Surrey and Sussex Air Ambulance. She has been detained with serious injuries.
