Museum marvel
It was smaller than expected, but inside the displays were well-spaced, light in presentation – not ‘heavy’ – and meticulously traced the development of Arundel and its environs from ancient times to the present.
The Second World War display was my particular interest.
I was hoping to see a brief mention of wartime Brains Trust philosopher C. E. M. Joad, who wrote many of his books at South Stoke - a beautiful hamlet nestled deep within the South Downs, close to the castle.
‘Professor’ Joad was not mentioned, but I enjoyed the visit immensely – and recommend the experience to others.
