I'm not a fan of any of the 20 teams involved this season - my lot, Pompey, are enjoying an extended holiday in League One and will relocate back to the promised land when they want to thank-you very much. But you may detect in my summary that for some of the teams I have axes to grind. That's half the fun of it though, isn't it? And I can say hand on heart I've not placed any team lower than I want to just because I don't like them*. If you disagree with my selections furiously, do have a go yourself - tweet me at @stevebone1 and post your own finishing positions, then we can all reconvene in May and see who knows best. (* apart from Leicester).
9. Brighton
After getting an early-season footballing lesson from Pompey in the Rumbelows Cup, now sponsored by Carabao, the Seagulls will be free to concentrate on the league. And I think they'll do that very well. Am not just saying this because I work in Sussex – and those who know me will confirm I am no Albion fan – but I think they'll do all right and not let in many goals. Prediction: 9th
10. Wolves
Fans of the Wanderers will probably turn their noses up at the thought, but I think Wolves are one of the favourite top-flight teams of fans who don't follow a PL club. I regard Wolves as a proper club, mainly because they were in the old division one when I first started taking notice of football. Mind you, so were Coventry and Stoke. Anyhow, big fan of Nuno, Coady and the rest etc etc, so I reckon another top-half finish is in order. Prediction: 10th.
11. Sheff Utd
As much as I like Chris Wilder and am not at all bitter that Pompey could have made him manager back in 2013, in what turned out to be their first of four seasons in League Two, no way will the Blades cut it as well as they did last season. But with Enda Stevens, who learned all he knows at Fratton Park, weighing in with 10 goals and 25 assists, they'll be nearer the European places than the bottom three. Prediction: 11th.
12. Newcastle
The Toon, every year, are one of the hardest clubs to put a finishing position to. In any season they could go close to the European spots – or could self-combust and go down. Ownership sagas will probably hang over them but the boy Brucie will pull some unexpected victories out of the bag too. Safe with a bit to spare but the fans won't be any happier with that than with much else that's gone on there the past 20 years or so. 12th.
